68 AC vent register install
« on: July 03, 2024, 02:53:17 AM »
Hello,

The AC vent on both sides are not going in flush like they used to.
There is a trick with the spring to get it right but I have not been able
to find the solution. Attached are photos of my vent hanging down vs one
that tucks up like it should.

Thanks in advance for the help.

There are several notches where the spring goes. You have to pick one that pushes the body far enough forward to catch the frame. You could have a bent or broken spring.

Have the bottom tabs broken?  Common problem with the '68 style 2-piece vents.

Thanks for the replys. Junior over at West Coast Cougar was kind enough to send me a quick video which was really helpful.

Get the spring on the middle notch push down against it until you can fit the top front (has 2 pins) in behind the upper front. Hard to explain, a video made all the difference. Happy to post it if somebody can help. it is about 18mb.

An excellent 4th to all
