I'm restoring the engine compartment of a 1967 289 mustang convertible that I aquired with much of the taken apart. The car has a 289 motor and power steering but no air conditioning. I have searched the internet but I cannot find where on the engine I bolt the smog pump adjusting bracket.  When I hold the bracket up to the smog pump and engine I looks like it bolts to the upper middle most bolt on the water pump with 2 spacers to make it fit. Is this correct or if not where does it bolt to?

Thanks for your help

Bob

Welcome to the site.

For the engine only, this manual will have the info you need:

https://www.npdlink.com/product/engine-assembly-manual-1967/138133?backurl=search%2Fproducts%3Fsearch_terms%3Dassembly%252Bmanual%26top_parent%3D200001%26year%3D1967&year=1967

But from what you describe, this complete set will be invaluable:

https://www.npdlink.com/product/assembly-manual-1967-complete/217282?backurl=search%2Fproducts%3Fsearch_terms%3Dassembly%26top_parent%3D200001%26year%3D1967&year=1967

Available in hard copy and PDF

Attached is a freebie, to give you a feel of the type of information you can have anytime you want or need.

You can also look for free in the unrestored car area of this forum, and while a picture is often worth a thousand words, sometimes the words you need are not in that 1000.

Another good reference is Jim's hardware spreadsheet, pinned at the top of the library section.  If you are good at advanced searching and filtering that can often fit the bill.

I find myself using all of the above.

Good luck with the restoration.

Bob,
Welcome to the forum. John beat me to the "best answer" part. There are also links to Ford's service parts books for our era Mustangs (all Fords from 65 thru 73), "Ford Car Parts" (aka MPC, the 75 edition) in this forum's library. They are in .pdf format and easily downloadable.
Jim
PS: Get the paper copies. You can mark them up with notes, plant peculiarities and add Ford service stock numbers.

First welcome the site. Hope that you find the support and information your looking for relating to restoring or maintaining your unrestored car.

Altered the title to reflect and focus on what I believe your working on - 289 as apposed to a 6 cylinder or 390.

The number and arrangement of the spacers depends on the other options that came originally on your specific car

Will see if I have a close up of the water pump end of that adjustment arm

In the body of your post, you mentioned (1) 289, (2) power steering, and (3) no A/C.  In reply #1 I included a diagram with that exact configuration.  Did this not answer your question?  John

Hi John

The picture you sent did not show up on my I phone but I just checked my computer and it was there. Thank you very much, it shows the bracket
exactly where I thought it should go. I will order the restoration manual you suggested.

thanks again

Bob

Some examples in pictures as we can see, on a car with AC (lower right hand corner picture) the access is allot smaller but the AC pump bracket replaces one of the two spacers at water pump end of the arm.

And while we are here focusing on the adjustment arm here is a couple of shots of the bolt and the washer with "ears" that sit in the slot of the arm and a look at the hardware at the rear of that bolt
