I have a 1/26/67 SJ build date with the later plates. I guess black screws are correct for a black interior car and lighter interiors got the stainless/chrome screws?

The washers or screws with no washers (pan heads) have been a discussion point for years and we find originals both ways so may be a running change but all were chromed to match the rest of the screw heads in the rear panels. On your car it appears that the style of screws someone installed in the latch covers were nor pan head (see first picture and there are washers may have been dispersed around the interior trim panels that may have been moved there when the panels were out and reinstalled at some point in the past.

Its also not unusual that to find owners that added the washers to screws to trim panels (seat backs, rear quarter panel covers for example, to help with enlarged or damaged holes in the trim.  But the style of screws that someone put back to hold your latch covers before you purchased the car are not pan head so they need the trim washer.

Sure the search will continue so that we can get closer to a firm (as much as possible change over date

So far we have 7R02C1518xx as the lastest original San Jose with the early style. A good friend was able to confirm that that car was completed on Jan 3rd 1966.

Now to find some more examples from later in the month. Not an easy task since so many panels have been altered/cut or changed out. But I have faith we can get closer

Since this is a two-three year old discussion will go back through my pictures with will include all of the car's I've added over that time period and redo the first post in the style of other Running Change threads and make the change to the title as well as remove a couple of posts that are not focused on the thread or just things like this post   once its all done.  Will look for knob data points also while going through the process
