Gray 1/4 wheelhouse protector

1/4  panel left side wheelhouse protector in trunk .  When did the gray rubber wheelhouse protector start to appear?

Believe sometime in 67 depending on plant. They might have been the results of a second and different provider than the black style

Less of the gray ones out there in the parts supply than the black style. Looking at total classic Mustang and Shelby production there are (of the cuff guess since I've not taken the time to compare and document yet) approx 6-7 versions

OH boy!!   I know there are  2 different lengths  between coupe, convert  and fastback.    I have always found them on big full size cars and cut them down .  This might take some homework to get all applications correct..  advice is welcomed.

None of the examples above are from convertibles and you can make out a number of different lengths and cutout locations if they have them

Which 66 cars do you have them on and are they later cars? 

Did look through all the 66's I have pictures of and couldn't find a one (66) that wasn't black yet. Would love to see pictures of the cars you referred to

Don't believe you will find a gray protector strip.

As far as the "notch' or "V" that was a feature of many of the 65-66 coupe & convertible strips.

Gray? They were made from a lighter gray material where the "black" was made from a black or very dark gray material.



They can be found originally on 67 through 70 Mustangs and Cougars.  They tend to be used more at certain plants than others likely due to two different providers and that typically this meant that each provider typically supplied certain plants all of most of the time and likely related (possibly in some cases) to where each was located, supplier and car assembly plant
