1968 Door Speakers
« on: August 03, 2023, 12:48:48 PM »
Does anyone know what size door speakers were used for the 1968 stereo door speakers?  I am thinking 4"x6"

I don't know the size but be aware there are reproductions being sold that won't work properly because the originals are 8 ohms and the reproductions are 4 ohms. Impedance is important in speakers. It needs to match or bad things happen.

I've had this "situation" before and as long as both, if you have two (or more) are 4 ohms, you won't have a problem. Of course, if you "crank it up", don't whine to me.

You are sadly mistaken.

Really? Like I said, with a 4 ohm speaker, if you don't "crank it up", you won't have a problem. I've also found 6 ohm car speakers, never used them.

With 4 ohm speakers and a radio designed for 8 ohm speakers the impedance is too low so the radio is essentially shorted out on the speaker connections. Sound quality is poor. You can go the other direction, using more impedance when the radio is designed for lower impedance speakers. It will simply have less volume. You cannot go the other direction.

Great photo reference. Now where can I find a pair of those?
