Fastback Deluxe Interior Roof Console - 1968 San Jose

Just checking to see what people are doing to restore console pads etc. Mine is not that bad, but it is not perfect. Are there prefered vendors that do restoration, or is recovering it what most are doing. The floor console is in the same condition. Not sure what I can do more than just cleaning it. The biggest factor is the loss of shape and separating foam and vinyl from the metal frame. I am not sure how nice they were new.

Just curious if anyone knows what this is. I tagged it as roof console, but not sure what it is for, or is it for something else?
