70 Boss VIN Stampings
« on: July 07, 2023, 07:32:54 PM »
It was suggested, by a member, that a thread on VIN locations and stampings would be helpful for others. For the moment we'll include examples from both plants (still identified as such) and split the two if the discussion suggest that would be better if the need arises. The effort here is to help owners and potential buyers from locating these so that they can be seen, studied and evaluated. The clearest, complete and best pictures I have were not used in every example since we don't need to help those that would choose to add or change them.

First the tags located in the windshield opening.
The script "F"'s were added to the tag late in the production year. and used into 1971. Exact date of the change is not know. For Dearborn cars my records show that it was likely between when 0F1789xx and 0F1870xx were completed.

Dash mounted VIN tags.

Transmissions.
Exact location appears to depend on the shift/worker assigned and where they stood in relation to the trans and engine assembly. Likely did engine and trans at the same time this year.

Great topic!

Jeff, you might consider adding a sample pic of the later dash tags with the stylized "F" at the front and back of the VIN.
I don't happen to have a Boss example to share, only some M code pics.

Also, are you considering adding sample pics of the shock tower VIN stamps?

Had been thinking that so thanks for the nudge
Addressed really didn't want to use the example I did but it will have to be a place keeper. Also need to find a NJ example from a very late car for that picture also.

Well, yes shock tower and inner fender panel ones as well.

With NJ I have the location variables and "mistake" VIN issues to try and cover in (will try) organized manner so that is going to take some thought
