Front Fender rear over spray & sound deadener 1968 San Jose
« on: August 03, 2023, 02:42:20 PM »
Just curious what the correct amount of overspray should be on the inside of the front fenders. I checked some photos of survivor cars, but curious if anyone has a photo of a restored car. It looked like sound deadener was only used sparingly on the fender tops and nowhere else. FYI I am painting the fenders off the car.

These are not my fenders, but curious if this is how I should do it. I plan on doing the sound deadener when the fenders are on the car, when I do the whole area.

The angle of the pictures is helpful in illustrating at least the angle the spray would have been applied to on the (in the pictures) exposed red oxide. If the body color was that heavy and provided such nice coverage on the fender opening lips, the head light bucket area, the lip where the front valance attaches and the rear support bracket allot of the over spray would have flowed into and onto the back side of the fenders leaving few surfaces with no over spray. Allot had to do with what angle the painter used in any one particular area of the edges

Since the current spray guns are what they are extra effort has to be made to produce (like with pinch weld body color overspray) to replicate the original looks and few IMHO restored cars have enough. Sorry don't have any "restored" cars to offer. If I have any it would be of examples with not the right overspray  :(  Also contrast inside of wheel wells are often not that great or the sound deadener application has been done also blocking the view of the paint details also

Maybe someone else will have something to offer
