can someone post a picture of the original shifter linkage, plate , shifter arms and shifter handle that was comes with the 68 4 speed toploader !

Believe that in general there are many names for pretty much the same finish. Locally some shops use just "zinc" while others use "clear zinc"  or "bright zinc"  Some turn out what almost looks like chrome plate if the surface is perfectly smooth and you need to dull that down or quicken the oxidization with a light coat and rinse of unpainted/cleared wheel cleaner

Here is a 67 shifter box torn apart into all of its pieces. I don't think the small block 68 is any different although some of the 67s have a spring on the backside to prevent pin rattling.
Mostly zinc with the backup light screw zinc dichromate.

The shifter horseshoe is damn-near impossible to remove. I see now why they sell these since removing the drift pin can easily break that aluminum piece.

The spring is tempered steel color and the spring washer is natural (off the top of my head).

Jeff, Bill thanks. Bill I did throw in to the box to replated the large shaft that goes through the center this one still had the spring clip under the horseshoe. Also have the zinc dichromate screw for the backup switch.

As i recall the shaft was bare steel. Not sure.
And the circlip is a dark phosphate.

I pick this shifter box up years ago and looks to be an early take off. Originally for a 1965-67 Galaxie. The box is definitely shiny almost like chrome in some places. The center shaft looks like it had a very light coat of possibly silver paint. The spacer tube for the long bolt looks to be bare steel.
