71 Engine Paper ID Stickers -
« on: July 31, 2022, 08:45:48 PM »
Does anyone know what the small symbol is beneath the "J" in the label shown in the attached photo?  Anyone have a clearer image?  I believe this label is an original.

I realise this discussion is more about how to make the decals but I'll leave it to admin to decide whether my one question warrants a new post.

Yes I think that since this likely relates to only early (as in 71-72) 70's engine ID stickers I'll remove the first line and move the post to the Boss or 71 section.

Good question and find

Look through the examples I've collected and could not find another with a dot or something in a similar position.

Do also notice that the J is shaped differently than the reproductions also. Might be a couple of the details also

I should say this is the label for a '71 Boss 351C engine.

Realized that but thought the small detail that is on the example might be shared by other engine ID labels that same year so looking at a wider pool of possible examples for you by placign the post here   ;)

That's a nice original if it truly is. The circle almost looks likes it could be a circle with an R in it, but I don't know what ford would be trademarking.

I think that is the first thing the pops into our minds though its use there would make no sense. Not like its the FoMoCo or AUTOLITE we normally associate with the registered mark. Of course this could be just a printing error also since we don't have other examples

Here is a photograph of a top radiator hose service part for a 351W equipped Australian built (1969-70) Ford Falcon including GT/Fairmont/Fairmont GS (see photo example of a GT). This is a very early hose that features red tracer stripes produced some time from Q3 1972 onwards. This part is the same as installed in the factory and is highly desirable because it has the stripes.  Most do not display this feature.  On the part label there is an "R" in a circle.  I assume this suggests Ford was trademarking their quick reference part numbering convention????? Does this suggest they even trademarked their engine code identification system too???

No if you look at the printing that is the registered trademark sign for the MOTORCRAFT name not the part number

Believe the US commission in charge of those things requires it in the lower right corner of the design or name
