Convertible Trunk Divider and Well Liner
« on: July 18, 2016, 06:27:16 PM »
Hi to all,

I'm new here. I bought a 68 convertible sunlit gold with deluxe nugget gold interior, very original. I'm having problems to figure out few things. My car originally came with plastic window, but previous owner changed to glass about 10 years ago. My well liner is not attached to the trunk but I can see 4 screws with a kind of plastic under. So, is this screwed to the well liner? If yes, is there any kind of molding to attach? Is this going together with the trunk divider? What I understand is if you have plastic window you don't have trunk divider, is that right?

From my experience with 67s & 68s, I believe you are correct in assuming that plastic window convertibles did not get a trunk divider. The trunk divider was more or less a protective device for the backlite when folded into the well liner.

Original well liners had a strip of black plastic sewn into the bottom seam of the well liner. Screws were run through this plastic strip to secure the well liner at the bottom to the trunk floor. At some point, your well liner was replaced with a reproduction (which lack the plastic strip) and the old screws and broken pieces of the plastic strip were left in place. You can remove the screws and plastic pieces and run the screws through the bottom edge of your well liner using the original screw hole locations.

Thanks a lot Pete... I will install the trunk divider because I have the glass window now, should I use the same holes for the well liner or is a different holes?

I wouldn't add more holes! It is easy to re-use the holes since the screws go through the outside edge of the well liner via the trunk area.

Does anyone know of a source for the hard board trunk divider for the glass back window. Dead Nuts On has made correct ones in the past but is now out of stock and doesn't know when they will have them. I am also looking for the clips that hold it in place at the top.
