390 C6 - Transmission Crossmember Question
« on: April 02, 2022, 06:20:57 PM »
Trying to identify this crossmember or rather make sure I have the correct one for my car. Picking up missing items as I work through putting the Mustang back together. Car is a 1967 Mustang 390 with a C6 trans. Here's a few pics. The numbers on it are 5 11 3 then an "A" with a circle around it. Is this the right thing and what would the factory finish have been? Thanks.

The one you need should have a large ?390? engraved. I think the one you have is likely for a 351/ C6 application.

Looking around the web it looks to be correct. West Coast Classic Cougar shows an example that matches exact. I was told it was out of a 67 Shelby which I doubt, but I'll go put it in the car and see what's up. Were these painted or just bare metal?

Not sure what you are seeing but they all were unpainted bare steel.

There are a bunch of them that look pretty similar to one another

There is a close up picture of the same transmission mount shown in the unrestored picture area of the site in the one marked
67 San Jose 390 GTA Fastback - Unrestored Picture Thread
Picture is labeled U-10 on the third page

Numbers you found are the date code and based on your signature it was made a couple of months or so  prior to your car's completion date

A few additional pictures from that unrestored late San Jose 390 GTA. Compare these details with the one you have

Hope this helps

From what I recall the 390 c6 cross member has more reinforcement. The blue one picture has the reinforcement that runs across 3/4?s of the back side which would be for a small block. The 390 version has the reinforcement all the way across from end to end. Looking at the pictures Jeff posted you can see that where the large R is stamped there is reinforcement metal above the R stamping basically creating a channel.

Thanks Jeff!  Now I can sell my one that is painted black and keep my bare metal one.
