Engine Compartment
« on: February 22, 2022, 12:50:42 AM »
Ive noticed that a few 69 -70 shelbys have the front hood latch, shock top mount bracket and the hood hinges painted the same as grill and headlight buckets, is this correct? also do the hood springs remain black or painted the argent as well?
thanks any help would be appreciated/1

No that is not correct, hood latch is zinc phosphate, the shock top mount bracket with the added washers is semi gloss black, hood springs are darker spring steel and the color of the grill is very close to dark argent. Don't confuse regular argent which is a light silver.

Did the 69 Shelbys get the modified shock tower caps? I thought that was a 65 and early 66 thing.

65,66,67,68 and 69/70 Shelby's were all supposed to get them. There are incidents in production for lack of inventory or whatever that a few didn't get them ,more in some years then others but they were part of the design.

Ok. Looks like I'm going to weld some washers on. Does anyone have any pictures of these brackets? Know the size and thickness of the washers?

Over kill for a clone but FYI a nuance detail for the grill was it was painted black from the supplier and so when it was  painted only the front side was painted .Probably laying face up on a table. The back side will show black with the dark gray overspray from the painting process. The entire front clip was assembled and painted the gray all at the same time.  The bottom side of some of the items only received grey overspray from the process. The grill was painted painted separately then added and at least sometimes given a second frontal shot of paint. Most likely the second shot was to cover scratches etc that the grill mesh might make to the headlight bucket area when it was installed.
