Color of trunk lid u-nuts
« on: January 20, 2022, 05:00:11 PM »
My understanding is that the 1968 FB trunk lids were painted separately, which means the bolts would have been P&O rather than painted.

However, would the u-nuts have been installed prior to painting and thus would be the color of the exterior paint?  Or would they be P&O as well?

The trunk lids, as in 67, were mounted on the car. They were not painted elsewhere.
The clips were mounted to trunk and the P&O bolts held the lid to the hinges.
I suspect after the trunk interior and trunk lid interior were shot that the lid was held mostly closed with a device (wire?) of some type and the exterior shot.

Look in the un-restored section and you will find cars (incl fastbacks) that have paint on the hinges, bolts and trunk lid underside.

The only trunk lids painted separately off the car are the Shelby trunk lids (in 67). Others can speak to the 68 Shelby lids.

+1 One of a number of items installed prior to exterior paint application. Plenty of prior threads on the subject. Examples can be viewed in the Unrestored Picture section. If you have a San Jose car (you didn't include that in the question) the parts I mentioned above it listed in the 67 San Jose Undercarriage article in the library also. Would be the same on all body types
