69/70 grille detailing / fastback rear deck lid questions
« on: January 05, 2022, 03:47:41 PM »
Hope someone  can answer some basic front end  detailing questions,

were the head lamp adjustor screws painted grille color ?  were the head lamp  buckets grille color as well ?

are the head lamp  finish trim rings painted black and the screws that hold them in place stainless steel /zinc or chrome or black ?

On the 4 bolts that hold the deck lid to the hinges, are all 4 body color or 2 body color and 2 phoshate and oil?
somewere I got information that the were 2 body color and 2 p/o finish,,,
 Thanks /bob

The fiberglass buckets are grill color .The steel headlamp bulb bucket was not. Headlamp trim rings were grill color . The screws were zinc phosphate. Yes one bolt was typically body color and the other not . Sometimes a different size washer on unpainted one too. It varied. I had told Twister to tell you to just call me .

Have also found original paint examples where both/all bolts were painted. Pictures of these can be found in the unrestored picture thread section of the site

Here are a few examples. Had more separated of the 70 (over 4822xx) but there are some of both 69 as low as in the 4813xx's and 70's

48157x

Under 1000 convertible on the left with one painted and the other not and on the right an example from the 4813xx'x

Late production. One that Bob and I looked at a number of years ago at a show were we were not busy judging

Hope this helps

Also headlight adjuster screws that attached the black headlight bucket inside the end of the fender were not painted. Those items were not installed when the surrounding area was painted gray

Close up of one of the headlight trim ring retaining screw from an unrestored car so a little age but to show difference in finish
