Tilt steering wheel harness, NOS vs ......
« on: October 31, 2021, 09:49:43 PM »
Just starting to dive in to a 1969 tilt steering column with some wiring issues. From what I can see, various wires leading to the plug have been cut for an unknown reason. Hazard switch is also broken.

Do I go the easy route and buy a Scott Drake turn signal harness, hold out for an NOS harness? Anyone with experience with the aftermarket offerings?

What about the hazard switch?

Any reason why the turn signal "flasher" would be missing and have a jumper installed? Could this be why the turn signal harness was initially cut (IE: to keep the car from burning up)

I have a bad back and a difficult time getting under the dash, still shopping around for a qualified shop to take the car to in order to really sort things out, but am hoping the collective brain-trust here can point me in the right direction so I can have parts in hand when the time to drop the car off occurs.

Thanks in advance for your experience and your guidance.

In my 69 Shelby w/Tilt Fly-a-way, I had to replace my turn switch due to the rear turn/stop power point in the switch getting hot and melting the plastic that held it. I replaced it with one from NPD.

Note you have to re-use the plastic connector and NPD page includes a PDF pinout diagram. Taking the connector off enables you to remove the wire harness w/o taking the steering column apart as well.

Accurate looking but not a Concours Restoration/build. See my build photo gallery at 69GT350 Hertz Build

I've done a number of replacements over the years in various Mustangs, all were fixed columns, and non were Shelbys. Your link, I believe, is the Scott Drake unit, I sourced a NOS unit just yesterday,  given the cars level of restoration, I thought it best as I slowly gather bits and pieces so that I can get the car roadworthy.

Thanks again for the reply.

The 13341-6A is not a Scott Drake part.

Scott,

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I am working on a division II car that really should have a NOS Ford unit installed in placed of the cut up original.

As for it not being made by Scott Drake, ok, I'm game, I thought Scott was the only one currently making them, who produces the one you sell?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Just for info, and others may have more insight, but the description on the NPD one states:

"Turn Signal, repro, from an original Ford supplier, complete contact plate assembly with wires and proper terminals"
