Steering wheel mount nut finish. Also washer behind nut?
« on: August 29, 2021, 03:57:49 AM »
Guys
June 1970 Metuchen Boss 302. What is the correct finish of the nut which secures the steering wheel to the column? I have seen bare steel and red as possibilities.

Also was there a washer behind the nut? Is it a spring washer or flat washer? If a flat washer, what was its thickness and OD
Thanks
Marti

The nut is dark so my guess would be phosphate and oil. Never have seen a washer.

My nut was red - for a Nov 69 Dearborn Car.
I don't know about a washer as my car came disassembled.

Thanks Brad. This fits with advice I have just had from a friend in the US who is the one and only owner of his 70 Boss 302. Red and no washer.

You won?t be surprised to know mine is a non factory bolt with a washer?. Red nut on way from the US  ;)
