Hi did ford ever have service parts for the flip open gas cap such as the gasket on the gas cap itself? Or has anybody restored one of these ?  I have three of them i  just wanted to know i was going to restore one  than buy a aftermarket one. Mark

I suggest you look in the Library for the 75 edition of Ford Car Parts (aka MPC), then search in the illustrated section first, to see if Ford did service the gasket. If so, there will be a Ford base number to look up in the text section.

I just made one. I didn't discuss it in my thread about pop open cap disassembly.

Its not cork, but rather a thick fiber gasket. It has strings of fiber running through it.
I found a decades old piece of gasket material that looked very close.
I used a button making cutter to cut the circles. Think of pipe with the edges ground down like a chisel.

Look in the library under 70 Mustang Article List.

You can use the later version but it may help or may not due to revisions and changes in inventory pressure. Access on this site is in the Library as mentioned. Sections of articles is broken down by year. Choose any of them since each has the last MPC print version listed right at the top of the list

A 1970 version will be difficult to find and would be somewhat expensive
