Which spare tire decal for this dec SJ trunk

I looked but I didn't find it.   Maybe the difference is one for chrome and one for argent?

Your car could have had the argent SS wheels and the black standard spare. In that case you would used the C7 decal. You also could have a argent SS  spare, in that case you would use the C8 decal. It did not matter whether the SS wheels were chrome or argent you would still use the C8 decal.  It is ironic that the C8 decal shows a 67 styled steel wheel.

Technically the C8 decal is considered correct, however, I have seen multiple 1968 GT cars (unrestored/original) with the C7 decal.  If you do not have your original trunk decal to document, I would go with the C8 decal.  If you have documentation of your original, I would replace it with the duplicate of the original.

MCA rules do allow for the painted standard steel wheel as a spare, however, I believe the spare wheel should also be a styled steel wheel for a number of reasons.

Thanks for the informative discussion.  I can't document the c7 or c8.  I have the argent spare tire.  I've been using the c7 for the last 30 years  but I have the c8 decal and this hardware.  The J hook is 3/8 x16 threads 8 inches long I don't remember where they came from anyway they would be correct for my application?  If I just had to choose I'd switch to the c8 style.

That is not a SS wheel hold down. If it is original it would indicate that you had the black standard spare. As Danny shared it would be better to have the SS wheel as a spare. You can purchase a correct reproduction hold down plate.

As Marty and Danny stated, if you have the SS wheel as a spare this is the correct C8 decal, J-bolt, and hold down plate.

The C8 decal was also used on 1968 Cougars with optional styled steel wheels - the wheel representation is appropriate for a styled steel '68 Cougar wheel but the car isn't a Cougar obviously. Apparently good enough for the purpose in both the Mustang or the Cougar.

With the C8 configuration the jack an handle are suppose to lay there like this?

Edit:
I tried putting my spare on top of the jack and handle according to the illustration and something does not seem right...theres nothing to hold that handle in place while you're shifting the tire up and in.

Guys how are we documenting that the SS wheels came with the C8 sticker? Could someone post some pictures of original stickers and Marti reports that match?

Went through all of my pictures and found very few of the C8's being originally installed or used on 68 cars. Think the C8 made many believe that they were the majority or typical. As a little history the  C7-D striker was introduced in the very late part of 67 production and carried into 68 production

So judging rules aside the C7 version was used during Dec 67 San Jose and the one most often placed in the cars. The wheel difference I can't comment on since I don't have marti reports for each car I have pictures of and wheels are so often upgraded.

Examples representing 8R11xxx-127xx  range. Have more of the same. All C7 decals with plain wheel in the illustration

Owners of other 68's built at other plants if your wondering (we can discuss in a new thread) I found similar there also. Seems the C8 is a very very late sticker that may not have been used for every long if ever at some locations  based on original cars I can find

Hope this helps

Thanks. May I ask what plant the car was built at so I can label the pictures fully?
