66 A & C Code Thermactor Thread
« on: October 18, 2020, 11:53:39 PM »
Realized that we have never really set aside a thread to collect details and parts that make up the 66  Thermactor systems installed for cars intended for California in that year. Some of the parts exchange with 67 but we have to start with. Will likely start one over in the 67 area since not all details are the same.

Just posted these in another post on another site so sharing them here also

The unused port is not drilled out - casting still there. Rear plate needs to be cleaned, painted and machined surfaces returned then oiled

Look at the front of the pump

Look at the date codes - casting and assembly In this case this was made for an early 1966 289

The "backfire" brackets, two piece early 66 with attaching hardware and late 66 single piece, plus manifold attaching hardware and backfire attaching hardware.

I promise to be politically correct in all my posts to keep the BBBB from vociferating.

Pump deflector. Postioning/clocking is important will add that later to this post

The casting date of the main pump cast. Assembly date is on a curved machined surface found on one of the exterior "fins" for lack of a better descriptive term

Spark plug wire re-locator brackets. Three of them

Passenger forward version. Car was really dirty with a very fine dust on it from years of storage in a business that created the dust

Drivers side example. Longer one shown above

This is excellent, thank you.  Will be looking forward to a 67 289 Thermactor Thread.

On a A or C code engine with Thermactor and AC the drivers side hose passes by (to the rear0 the AC pump and to reduce rubbing and vibration is held to the pump with a simple rubber coated clamp.

At the rear of the engine the valve was plumbed/attached to the engine air cleaner with the use of a pre-shaped hose

Hose not fully seated on the nipple

Some more of the same items Jim posted in Reply #1

C6OE-D valve to intake bracket. Brackets and spacer were all painted semi-gloss black as Jim's post shows

Spacer example with hardware details. Head are the RBW type
Wonder how much trouble someone got in by messing up and either making the bracket too short or not having a bracket made for the wrong valve =?

Adding a picture to show the vacuum fitting at the rear of the intake manifold. This example shows the connections

Large threaded hard line to rubber hose for a power brake supply, larger nipple connection for the automatic transmission vacuum source and the small nipple for the thermactor valve visible at the rear of the intake manifold

NOTE: Someone rattle canned the area in the picture with blue engine paint so finishes and colors are not correct or original :)
