Ok, so I am now looking for a correct block and heads for my vehicle (have placed ad in WANTED section). I need to know what the correct block casting will be and the correct assembly stamping will be for a May 20 built 66 A code GT.
I am really looking for the most widely accepted date that would suit this vehicle, Im not 100% sure, but I believe there is a small difference between the assembly date of engine (stamped at top L/H side of block) and build date of vehicle on door tag.  accuracy is what im after as i plan on restoring this vehicle to concourse standards.

My response from the other thread just to keep the information shared equal

My mistake - happens sometimes but we can set things straight from this point.

Checking my records if your car was built around the time Ford guessed it would be and by looking at numbers from other cars built around the same time and plant it appears the common spread is Feb - April 66. You can not be more precise than that IMHO since we can't be sure of any specific. But this is a good thing since it will give you a wider range to search for.

Looks like assembly machining and assembly dates for those blocks cover mostly April and possibly the very first part of May, looking at what I've collected at this point.

Would guess that allot of your car's unibody sheet metal is from Mar/April period

I'm sure we can help with the casting numbers, but I would highly recommend you add this book to your library:

will order today, thank you........ Now back to the codes,
I know I am posting on the wrong section, but I promise to stop.
I have a guy going to the states this Sunday to look for engines, so time is of the essence , but I want to make sure he is looking for the exact castings I require.

Thank you again.

Either one of these two should work as long as they have a date in that range

As you can see I merged the question and answer posts from the wanted section over here ;)

I have found a block, but would like your opinions of the numbers that are cast into this block  (see attachment/image) , is this a suitable block or can anyone see a problem with these casting dates etc matching up with my vehicles projected build date listed in the above  quote . cast date (6C16) and assembly date ( 6C18P)
thank you
Richard.  (I have this same post in the wanted section).
Sorry for any confusion.

I am reading March 16, 1966, final assembly date March 18, 1966. It fall within what has been explained previously as "acceptable" but, IMHO, maybe a ew weeks too early. I say this because it was only 2 days from casting to finished, supply (stock/inventory) was running out fast as they could build them.

That being said, if the bore and block are in good rebuildable condition, I PERSONALLY do not see any problem with using it anyways. The date spread seems to be acceptable to those judging these cars.

OK, what are your thoughts about the fact that this car was a special order paint vehicle...... would this effect the projected build date of may 20th 1966.  what I mean is would there have been a different period of time
or a longer period between the body being built and painted and the engine/ drive train  being installed and would this mean the dates would be greater or further varied ?

Thanks again for all your valuable information,
Richard.

I think Jeff addressed the basic question before, I'm not an expert of time/timing on these cars (66 & older).
I gave only a personal opinion that I would probably use that engine since others also agree it is within reasonable range. (still not optimun, but OK at least)

Maybe others can answer the special paint question better.
