1970 leaf spring paint markings
« on: March 08, 2021, 03:45:20 PM »
Since we have recently removed the rear springs for my sons 1970 Mach I, I have noticed what looks to be four paint lines on each of the rear springs, in pairs. Checking to see if anyone would happen to know what the paint colorings would be of the stripes for a 1970 MachI, 351 Windsor 2V, automatic car? Thanks!

Need more information please

Is this for a AC or non-AC car Guessing its a PS car also.

If you provide the engineering numbers from the springs that may be additional help in helping your get the most correct answer

I'm attaching a pic of the ends of the leaf springs where you can appear to make out four bars on each spring. Looks to be two groups? This is a non-AC car and it does have power steering. Let me know if there?s any more information you need. The springs are pretty rusty so we would need to take a sandblaster to look for the engineer numbers.

Most likely Gold and Brown but typically applied in single strip of each as listed on buildsheets.

Believe they might have been marked C9ZA-C a wire brush and a couple of minutes might provide a better look at your markings

The East coast is having a bit of a "warm up" over the next few days so my son will be out media blasting a lot of components. I will have him do a few passes for the stampings and perhaps soak the ends in Evaporust to see what can be found.

Would try Evapo-rust on the stripe end for a day so that it does not remove any paint residue. If you get a little sample in each stripe location you can examine it closely or expand it to at least get an idea of what is there

Good luck with your efforts
