c6 speedometer gear
« on: March 30, 2021, 12:03:09 PM »
My car keeps eating the nylon speedometer gear in the transmission.  about every two years, the teeth end up becoming chewed off and I have to replace the gear.  I can seem to determine what could be causing this.  any suggestions

Have you replaced the speedometer cable yet?  It could be dragging and causing excessive wear on the nylon gears.

Are you using the correct gear? The entire gear should be a solid color.

Some gears spiral different directions

+1. I don't know what two years represents in miles but if lasting means a thousands miles before the gear gets chewed up at least that indicates a correct type gear. A incorrect gear would go away very quickly and not register correctly on the speedometer end.

And since Mr Gaines is always correct, make sure the cable is not touching the exhaust pipe.
