66 wiper arm finish
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:44:19 AM »
I have a set of 66 wiper arms I need to refinish for a friend.

Wondering if the correct finish is highly polished or should be satin (to knock down glare)?

I do not have details on what plant the car was made at or VIN number of the car.  I just know that it is a 66.

Thank you.

The '66s were all satin finish to cut glare-they were the "flanged" or "hooded" ones.

I don't think all 1966s were satin finished. I have a friend that has a 1966 SJ Mustang with a schedule build date of November 1965. It has the chrome wiper arms with the hood and the wiper blade assembly is also stainless steel  like the 1965 Mustang. The car is a fairly low milage. (74,000 miles) Ford didn't throw away many parts and would sometime use them until the supply ran out. This car also has the 1965 air vent cap on the drivers side.

Since you didn't know the plant or time period the car was built :( we can't be really specific with the help but here are a few original cars to illustrate what I found in my collection

Found both hooded and unhooded used at some plants - polished and brushed with similar variables. Just what I found

Now if the question is what are judges expecting to see if my friend shows the car  or what was "typical" the answer may be different ;)
