1966 metuchen   when lowering the convertible top one side does not lower all the way down like the other side. what could be the cause

weak or leaking cylinder on that side. there is a conv. top manual supplement for the factory shop manual. suggest you seek one out.

One bad cylinder is one thing that comes to mind . Other causes like joints not lubricated causing binding or a combination could contribute.

Or a bent arm, sometimes outward.

i do have the supplement. guess it could be the cylinder, but there are no leaks. the top functions fine other than this. arms appear fine.

the cyl. can have an internal leak. are the lines ok?

yep the lines are ok, so i don't know...... maybe nothing can be done but it seems like there should be a solution, before putting new cylinders on, which i'll do if necessary.  new cylinders were put on when i did the restoration approximately 10 yrs ago and it has always been this way

'new' does not always equate to working correctly.

A good approach, but eventually you got to bite the bullet and start replacing parts.

I have a 66 and 69 with power tops, would it be possible to unhook cylinder and manually put down? That way may discover the possible binding point.
