67 C5DA-6394-A Manual Bell Housing Date Code Pattern
« on: January 11, 2021, 06:55:24 PM »
I took some pics of the 65 through 2/68 3 and 4 speed C5DA-A bellhousing.
Another site started a conversation on date codes which could be interesting here.

My 65 A-Code 2+2 has a clock style date code of 3/65 on a 5/18/65 door tag date car.
My GT350 also has a clock style date code with a 7/66 on a 3/2/67 Ford build date.
With a correct vin numbered trans I suspect the bell housing is original.

Here is a pic of MPC, casting date and cast number. The Shelby bellhousing could be a 6/66 if you don't count the little dot at 8 o'clock.

This date coding pattern is included in the up date for the Decoding Date article. Almost 60 pages in total now. Not sure how I can continue before I'm going to have to do Part I and Part II :)

Thanks for sharing - data will go to the spread sheets

I should note the date is found just down from the pivot rivets.

Also interesting is that this lends some credence to the batch theory of parts casting. The date spread here is quite large. Perhaps they made a lot of these and they found more and more people were opting for automatics?

Considering that 100's of thousands of these and other manual trans bell housings were made we're going to need allot more samples to figure out out patterns. In most cases most parts that make up or cars were made at the suppliers in batches we just don't know if this means over a day - week or month and how much it varied based on when during the production year or how many times during the year the length between differed.

One place I use to collect so data is from Ebay ads. Got a dozen or more last week from there - all versions since I was looking for date patterns for the article. Only down side is that you don't get any vehicle data with that source - build date and such.

More and more sellers are including pictures that include the dates. Guess that is due to forums like ours and bidders asking about dates
