convertible water deflector
« on: December 04, 2020, 01:39:50 PM »
Does anyone have a picture of the water deflector on their convertible? I just ordered some and cant for the life of me figure out how they go on. The Body and assembly manual makes it look easy but the parts I got dont look like the drawing in the manual. Maybe the parts are wrong, I dont know. Any pictures available?

If it's the small rubber part that goes at the lower rear of the quarter window, very few even have them installed.
Most trimmers just threw them away when installing a new top. They sandwich between the rear side rubber weatherstrip & the top frame.

Yes I am referring to the part by the quarter window. Maybe I should just leave it out

If I remember right, they mount before the weather-strip goes on.  Possibly glued to the weather-strip before mounting?  I have an original pair but don't recall exactly.

The deflectors, C5ZB-7653988-9, are shown on the 1964 Mustang Body Manual (AM0001 pg 38, item 5) as being added and effective on 12-11-64. Even though they are shown in the 64 Manual, they were not used in 1964 and should not be installed on early 65 Mustang convertibles.

btyancobb that is the part I am looking for. Mac's does not carry it any more. The 65 Assembly manual does show this part. Was it not installed until later in 65? My car is a Feb build. Would this be why I have nothing in my parts boxes? Thanks

I am not certain but I think it went into use in early 66.

Pretty sure these were on a late May '65 Dearborn convertible I had.  They had some cracking in the rubber, so I didn't reinstall, still have them somewhere.

Found another example... a 13B '65 San Jose car had them.
