67 Mustang Sports Sprint Emblems (on fender)?
« on: December 06, 2022, 07:15:33 AM »
I have to wonder if these may be simply a Dealer or Owner add-on but I have found a few different discussions on the internet about them with the majority of opinion being that they were not original to a 67 Mustang Sports Sprint.

They do look to be the size and shape of the GTA emblems used for 67.

Would be interesting to see the back side.  But if it is uses the same chrome plated pot metal base as the GTA emblem, the casting number would be the same, and of no real help.

I looked at all of the 1960-68 text search "hits" for the individual words "sport" and "sprint" and there were no emblems.

Then I looked at the illustrations and noted that basic part number 16098 was used for emblems on the lower fender behind the wheel, and 16228 was used for emblems in front of the wheel.  A search of both of those yielded no "sports sprint" emblem of any kind.  Therefore it was not serviced, at least not in this comprehensive master parts catalog dated 1968.  Nothing in the 1967 single year car parts catalog.

That is interesting. Nothing I have seen before. I wonder if it was something that Ford considered using but, in the end, did not use. I have seen some GTCS emblems like that.

Don't recall but didn't the Falcon line have a Sports Sprint option like the earlier Sports Coupe one?

I've not seen these on a 67 before

I looked into the Falcon and Fairlane ideas to no answer.
One of the guys at one place discussing the NOS one pictured says it has the same number on the back cast into it as the 67 GTA emblem.

I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that an individual dealership (or individual) discovered who the emblem supplier was for Ford and simply had a run of them made up for the Spring Promotion.

Agree with the possibility. Did the build date match up with the car being a spring built car? Maybe Jan - Feb through May or so?

Also did someone get the DSO or was there a Marti report available. All could be helpful in a search into the question

The only person who claimed to have them on the car was on a 2016-dated post.
No help on any more info.
