photo of original front floor seam sealer application
« on: January 11, 2011, 06:34:51 AM »
Hi,

does anyone have a photo or tmo to hand of how the front floors would look originally and particularly the seam sealer on a convertible, particularly along the floor to inner sill and up the footwell toeboard joins to the cowl area? Ideally both passenger and drivers side.

My car has had some past dodge repairs in this area and I want to get it back to factory look, with correct black seal sealer etc. applied as close to the way it would have been in the factory

Car is a San Jose built, Jan 1967

thanks

I don't have a picture handy, but the seam sealer was applied along the seam where the floor pan meets the firewall. Also the seam along the kick panel to the floor pan (but not the rockers to floor pan) was typically sealed. The seam is as thick as you see in the trunk around the pans to the wheel houses.

Guess the best follow up question is - Are you looking for details from the interior (top) side or from under the car?

ah yes, sorry I meant from the inside.

I wasnt going to show these pics as its embarassing! but this is the state of them at present - when the car came to the UK it had to have some repairs for the MOT (annual check) but the selling garage obviously did a quick-fix to get it to pass, but its annoying they didnt do a proper job, so I plan to have it redone properly.

Checked and I have no really nice pictures of a stripped interior of a 67 conv. I offer the following as a little help - with them and Pete's description above above you should have a pretty good idea. Each picture is followed by one with the spray sealant highlighted

Hope this helps

Hi, thats great thanks for taking the time to do that.

so to confirm, in the 1st and 2nd photos you posted, and in line with what Pete described, there should be no sealer along the join between the floor and the rocker? (we call it the sill). and that would presumably go for the convertible also?

thanks

The outer floor to rocker (as well as the seat pan) received no sealer, typically, from inside the car. The floor to rocker would have been sealed from the bottom side of the joint.
