1967 289 auto trans mount insulator
« on: August 04, 2015, 07:40:01 PM »
Switching over to the C4 trans mount, pictures below, I found it interesting that it has three engineering part numbers on it:  C4ZA-6068-A / B / D

Comparing to the 67 MPC, also pictured below, the number does not jive.

Do I have the right part, or was this changed out?  My car was mostly original - the only major thing changed that I found was the rear axle.

Thanks, John

That style trans mount was used on small block auto and manual from 65-70 . As far as I know they all function equally regardless of engineering number unlike the motor mounts. I am not sure what the differences between the different engineering numbers are but there must be something even if it slight. Just my experiences .

The one fits all C4 trans mount is pretty typical. Have a number of pictures with that particular mount

Well your MPC suggests like it often does, that Ford decided that they would service all the Mustang transmission mounts with the same one it appears
Would mention that the  Feb 68 MPC shows separate applications for the C5ZZ- A, -B & C as well as two C7 applications. Will shoot that section and post

What month 67 MPC is your picture from?

Thanks Bob and Jeff.

The picture was from the MPC version from Jan 67

Finally got my computer to see the card from one of my cameras

Here is a shot from the page I was referring to above

Looks like different information - but as usual does it reflect what was originally done or what they were stocking and supplying as replacement parts??

Since the mount is 4sp and auto, perhaps a title change?

My trans mount was painted semi-gloss black like almost everything else the PO owner did to "freshten up" the car.
I saw some different color paint creeping out and took some thinner to it.

This appears to be the same color as the power steering tie rod paint on my 67.
Is this paint common? Could it be Shelby specific?
Finally, I gather the metal portions should be natural?

Were they both the same originally?  The MPC page I posted only shows one mount was sold as a replacement for both applications as I noted

No the paint mark is not a Shelby thing from the ones I've seen and have pictures and notes of, but related to the transmission mount (engineering and part number) and in turn the application. So if it was a replacement we could find the same mark on C4 and manual applications and if they were originally different from the factory we would see two different color identification marks

I'm not tracking. John has one on his Auto that is identical to mine (F spec 4 spd). It lists the three revision in the rubber (A, B, D).

I don't understand. The yellow denotes the entire rear engine mount assembly?
Let's put it more simply -- do I put the yellow paint back on? I thought my entire mount assembly was an original piece.

I typically see the same trans mount used on auto as four speed for small block cars. The yellow is also typical on the same smallblocks from what I have seen. Big block Mustang/Shelby are different.

I think my brain was rather mushy yesterday. Waaaay too involved in a stroker project.
Thanks!

I'm reading the page (just 289's and am seeing three C5 versions and two C7 versions. Of course this is mixing both K code and non-K code applications

We see that both K and non K codes were serviced with the same C5ZZ-C versions that are listed as K Code 4 speed. Because of these service parts IMHO any of the findings with these mounts are sort of suspect since we don't know if they are original or have been replaced.  The mount John posted is interesting with three engineering numbers on the mount I wonder if that is evidence that it is a service replacement. We would need other examples to determine this - and I'm sure that is why he posted the original post. Your post does not seem to represent that yours is the same mount since you only showed the one single engineering number

Only in the 67 version of the MPC posted above. built before Nov 1 1966 (keeping the discussion focused on 67 only)

For your 67 K code 4 speed yellow is likely the best choice at this time IMHO. I have records of it being found on a number of similar cars and yellow (likely because it stood out and helped the workers assembling the car) was used on a  transmission mount just about every year. Have one 67 Shelby example with yellow and its a service replacement with a D1 engineering number

I should have posted the pic that shows I also have all three revisions on my mount.

My thinking was that since it has a C4 number (all three revisions) and not a C5, C6 or later number that it might be original. My motor mounts are Ford and appear original so I thought this one might be as well.

Looked through the pictures I have presently - focusing on 67 and prior

Found a C4ZA-A marked one

Found a number with the three engineering numbers

Found a C6ZA-A marked one

Need to find some more to collect more data

No C7ZA examples yet
