Correct Dark Red Interior Paint/Dye
« on: July 10, 2020, 12:47:56 PM »
Hello All!

I am new to the site but not new to the hobby. I am currently restoring a 68.5 CJ Fastback (July Dearborn Build) with Dark Red Interior. My other cars all have had black interior so I have never run into an issue with correct color or vendors for paints and dyes. I see so many listings for Dark Red Semi-Gloss, Flat, with and without metallic... It has become confusing. Can anyone please help with what vendors and brands have shown the correct color for Dark Red and also if both Semi-Gloss and Flat are used, and if there are different sheens used then what interior items receive those sheens. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

I have used the Red interior paint from NPD for the interior of my 67 Thunderbird and was pleased with the results. I painted the dash pad, kick panels and rear package tray.

I have gone through the same thin with my 68.  I have tested almost every available, the closest is the discontinued scott drake l-5732, but I could not find enough to do an entire car.  The paint should be metallic, npd s AP-5732 is non metallic, and out of stock..  npd s AP-5792 is the closest, but only a slight metallic and very flat.  I am using this and top coating it with clear to get the correct sheen, somewhere between satin and semi gloss..  there are not really any good can options for the 68 dark red since scott drake discontinued their product.  I sent them an inquiry on this, but as usual, I got no response.
