Front Bumper to Fender Clearence
« on: July 27, 2012, 07:06:18 PM »
I bought a new front bumper and I think I got a re-chromed reproduction.  :(  Wouldn't be so bad if it fit, supposedly it was checked on a jig so maybe its right.  I dont really like the spacing between the fender and the bracket.  It seems huge to me.  On one side at the tip its about 3/4" at the bracket about 5/8".  The other side measures about 5/8" at the bracket and the tip.  What do you think?  To big or am I too picky.  If its too big how can I prove its the bumper and not the car?

You probably already know this, but, a date code is stamped on an original bumper.  That code is stamped on the down side of the chromed bumper just above the left turn indicator.
There is some adjustment available between the bumper and the fender.  While the chromed bumper won't give you much if any the bracket can be persuaded to give a little and a little pressure on the fender itself will give you a little more.  To get that 1/8" your looking for you will need to move the fender outward and bend the bracket toward the bumper.   My experience anyway.  Brian

I know this is an old thread, but I searched front fender bracket and could not find the answer...I am looking to confirm the finish for the bumper-to-fender bracket on a 1967 Metuchen April 1967.

And the date code on a 67 is in the center of the front bumper.
