Topic: Help ID tie rod ends

I could use some help identifying these tie rod ends.  Thanks in advance. John

1. First two pics: I did not compare to my known 67 units yet, but is this a 67-69 or a 70 or   The boot is C6OA-3332-A


2. Second two pics: The second is probably a Moog 336R, but I'm surprised there is no zerk fitting.

First one looks like 67-69 assembly line.  Second one looks like Moog replacement for 64-66 manual steering.  Back in the 1970's Moog made no zerk tie rod ends for all Mustang models that looked identical to the factory ones except for part number markings.  Moog was a supplier for Ford.   Today they all seem to have grease fittings and are no longer made in the US.

I think NPD carries some that do not have grease fittings.

Don't recall the raised numbers on #1 as being assembly line

#2 is a replacement it appears, of some kind. It also has raised number system only orientated differently it appears

3rd picture looks like a 70 as it takes bigger castle nut on stud end

True, but for 65-66, not 67-70 (sources checked: online & paper catalogue)

Rare Parts were making some for some for the 67-69 applications

Haven't been by in maybe a year so can't confirm current practices though I would think they are still at it.

I've been going through my collection of steering parts and tie rod ends.

First 3 pics:
Your Part no. 1 labeled 1217 looks almost identical to one I pulled off of a 68 V8 P/S system I just pulled off the shelf (after 35 years). The yellow paint daub could indicate assembly line (if not an early restoration). But the interesting parts is that it's similar, save its C8OA-A boot and prefix. The cast-in number on the bottom of mine is 13-4040. It also has the paint daub and an original style boot with metal ring, as pictured.

4th pic:
Your Part #2 version is also interesting in that I have a few 360R rod ends with that number/letter in the underside cap. It may well be an Elgin Industries item as they offer a similar part number today of ES360RL. From their website they appear to have been in business a long time and they were an Ford part vendor. Just not sure if they were ever OE or just replacement.

Pics 5&6:
For reasons lost to swap meet history I have an NOS C7ZZ-3A130-A end. Its only mark is the letter B in the cap. It had a rubber boot with internal metal ring (could not see the metal, but it was in there. The finish on this one is just superb.

Not necessarily starting a survey...but I did want to document that I pulled off a junkyard 69 Mach 1 big block manual steering car an original tie rod with C8OA-3332-A boot and idler arm stamped C7ZA-3355-B.  After some searching the tie rod end boot is not discussed much (in terms of part numbers), and Bill included some nice pictures in this thread.

The MPC lists C6OZ-3332-A for 67 & 68, as of June 68.  I would presume that a C8OA numbered part would have been used at some point in 1968, and then it appears carried over to at least 1969.

Does anyone know where to get correct boots for tie rods used on a March 66 built Shelby? My tie rod boots look like the ones shown on Bossbills' post of picture no. 3.

Phill will most likely have nice assemblyline type. There are nice reproduction boot with ring alternatives fortunately if a assemblyine version is not mandatory.
