1970 NJ Mustang door paint and seal
« on: April 11, 2020, 01:39:39 PM »
Hello,

I would like to know if the Ditzler paint 9295 Mat Black was correct for painting the lower section of the doors of my car with TA interior code?

I have the 5 screws per door for fixing the door weatherstrip but I would like to know if it is also stuck to the door?

Thanks :)

The correct color is Charcoal poly black DDL 32586  you can get it at TCP global in their lacquer house brand.

The weatherstrip attached to the door was glued in place using a yellow based adhesive and a brush so that application did often look messy

Number of pictures of this in the 69 and 70 unrestored picture threads

It is a paint that also goes on the dashboard and which gives the granite aspect to the dashboard?

Same dark charcoal black would have been used for most of the panels in the interior that appear black

You'll find a list of those items in the 70 Mustang section of the Library ;) Taken from a PPG source from the era

I have this document of the library, but I don't find the localisation for the lower door section. There are two paint code in this document, Ditzler 9295 Semi Gloss Black & Ditzler Charcoal Black Poly 32902. ???

Yes for some reason for 69 and 70 PPG listed the exterior low gloss (used for the 69 Mach I and and Boss exterior details) in with the interior color. For interior "black" the dark charcoal listed was the color used for 67-up

They also list the lower door is not spelled out in the 70 sheet.

So in an effort to help out here is a picture or two of the detail of how it was painted then masked. Posting Dearborn examples though not sure if that is where your car was assembled (From the 0F151xxx period

I've also used TCP Global for interior paints in the past and been happy with the results

The number listed as 32902 is for the Flat charcoal black. The flat was used on the 4 plastic lower dash guards and the package tray and the back side of the trap door.  The number listed as 32902 is not listed anywhere in my charts. The flat charcoal number I have listed is 32651. Good luck!
