1967 GT500 Hood Pin Lanyard Attachment
« on: April 05, 2020, 01:40:58 PM »
I have searched the forums, but found nothing on the subject. The Registry says early cars had the hood pin lanyard attached to the grille. My grille does have holes for this. The Registry says later cars had the lanyard attached to the hood pin bracket. Mine has holes there too with old painted over nuts and bolts in the holes. Does anyone know what the cut off was for grille attachment vs bracket attachment? Thanks.

There is no exact date on record for the change . If you give both vin and the completion date I would be glad to offer a opinion.

Here are three examples from unrestored cars with VINs close to yours and were finished at SA about two weeks after yours. Bob and I viewed both of the first two a few years back at a SAAC convention. At least one and possibly two of these were built in the same order group as your car

Thanks. I'll use the hole in the grille. Strange that I seem to have an extra hole in the bracket with a bolt and nut in them. I also have pictures of my journey in repairing my steering wheel horn wires that I will post in a few days when I finish it. I appreciate all the help. I have had Mustangs, but not a Shelby before and it needs lots of TLC.

I have an early car. Dec '67. The lanyards are riveted about 7/8" from the furthest end of the grille like shown in the illustrations above.

We ran into a vehicle with a similarly placed hole.  After inquiring it turned out to be a pin switch for the hood from an old-style alarm system.

I agree the hole was most likely a alarm switch mounting hole .The hole is way too big and in wrong location for lanyard rivet. Agree with Jeff on correct rivet location for the car in question.
