67 air conditioning wire harness extra tape
« on: February 29, 2020, 06:10:24 PM »
My brother retired from the Ford Climate Control Division and I was looking through some documents he had.  There is a detail shown on the attached pictures that shows extra tape on the 14290 wire harness assy in front of the two condenser brackets.  Has anyone seen this on original car?  I did not compare this yet to the Osborn assembly manuals yet.

Randy - have you seen evidence of this ever?

It's there, page 83 (E7-8655-2) of the Osborn manual.

Thanks Jim

The difficult question is a two parter; did this actually get done, and if so was this a running change?

7F01C129xxx does not appear to have any tape layer added to the harness.

Nor does 7R01A220xxx.

Nor 7T01C145xxx.

These pictures are hard to get on an assembled car...

It would make sense being the harness lays across the condenser brackets. Perhaps there was a running change made with the condenser so the brackets lack a sharp edge.
If you take a look at the core support where the harness you illustrated passed through it has the sheet metal rolled so it doesn't chafe the harness and compromise it.
P.S. Good catch by the way. Perhaps we'll find a picture of a vehicle this was actually done on. Was this done on the 65-6 cars?

Difficult to say.

The change notices do not reference item 43 so it may have been an original design requirement.

No. It's a completely different harness routing.

I have never seen the tape. By the drawing Ford knew that there could be a problem with chafing there. I think in late 67 and all of 68 there were plastic protectors installed on the condenser to protect the harness.

I have seen on a few but not all a single wrap of black friction over the regular wrap on the short section of the harness going over the condenser legs. I would like to see more evidence on the plastic protectors being used in late 67 . I am a little skeptical as the July 67 cars I have been around didn't have the plastic protectors. It is more likely IMHO that the plastic protectors were started in the 68 production .

Bob you may be correct about the plastic protectors not being used till 68 production. You never know what was changed or added on 50 year old cars and I have not see that many 67s that had the plastic protector to have a strong opinion about the 67s
