Topic: 67/68 Group 22 and 24 Battery Tray Size

I just found a very nice, unused original battery tray for my 67.

What are the dimensions of the Group 22 and 24 trays?
This tray inside dimension is just a bit longer than a Group 24 at 10 1/2". That seems tight. I have no cars with which to compare.

On the date code. This one is date coded in the tray, not on the support. It's actually a pretty good date for my car regardless of what year it was stamped. Normal?

I got a "dead" 24R battery on my workbench. The base measures 10 1/4 inches. The hold down tabs are 1/2 longer.

The 24 F tray would not be original to your car however they don't make a 22 F battery replacement other then upgrading to a 24. The group 24 is much longer and will not fit in the 22 tray. In the beginning we would bend down the edge of the tray that faced the solenoid so the the battery would fit the tray . Later we traded trays which looks better.  It is more typical for the date code to be on the support.

I should have a Group 24, albeit the red cap version. Right?

I'm not sure where 196667Bob got his battery data but the 1960-68 MPC shows a 10 1/4 long battery. A test fit of a Group 24 just barely fits my new tray, but fit it does.

What are the dimensions of the Group 22 tray?  Unlike 65/66 which use a side hold-down for the battery which would make the tray longer than the battery itself these top hold-downs can be very tight.

OK you are in luck , The good news is that the heavy duty battery would be a red cap 24 F however the only one that is being reproduced is a 68-70 version

Bill : The listing I posted was from the 1965-72 MPC. Obviously the 10-3/4 is another Ford misprint. I Posted it as qpposed to the 1960-68 because it was easier to distinguish the  and 24 designations. Just didn't think to "proof" it.
