1967 Mustang Console Color and Shape
« on: February 19, 2020, 10:28:19 AM »
I have a (believed to be) 28,000 mile mostly original car that came factory with a console (according to the Marti report).  The car has original blue interior, but the console is black.  Has anyone ever seen this before?  Should it be blue?  Furthermore, I have seen other posts about the front of the console being cut vertically for air conditioning.  Mine is not cut even though it is a factory air car.  Did someone replace the console at some point?  Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Blue interior would get a blue console.
As far as being cut or how any cuts up front were done, there seems to be some variations on the assembly line.

+1 should be blue.  Without cuts for air.  It sounds like yours has indeed been replaced.

Agree with the others that the blue console would be expected and likely installed. IF they were short of blue consoles the car build would not have been started
The fact that you report that your car has AC and the console is not trimmed supports this also

Here are two 67 NJ examples

JEFF, you may notice that these two NJ examples are NOT TRIMMED for AC...I couldn't recall the details from the thread discussing this at the time of my first reply but I did seem to recall that not all were trimmed for clearing the AC

Sorry could not find any clear pictures of 67 Blue interior consoles with AC

Guess we need more data points for those specific consoles that were originally installed on AC cars. Looks like its going to be difficult given the number that have been broken, replaced or added to cars over the 50 years.

Thank you all for the replies.  I have ordered the correct paint, and will paint it blue.  The console is an original unit that is in overall good shape, so I would rather use it than buy a repro.
