Hi,
Does anyone know how to repair a crack in a Seat Back Panel 1967 Deluxe?

Have a crack right in the middle from bottom to center appr. 3 inches long.

Which type of repair material would be the best? 2c Epoxy + reinforcement?

What is the material type of the panel? PC, PC-ABS, or other.....?

Any repair method recommended?

Saw in another threat Devcon plastic welder, Plastic plastic repair kit or even acetone.

Best choice?

I know acetone will weld the plastic that the console bases were made of but haven't tried it on a seat back.

I've used a vinyl repair kit on a black dash pad and on two of my bar stools with black vinyl seat covers. The car with the dash pad repair is long gone but the bar stool repairs are still intact. I remember using a brick covered with plastic wrap to keep the curled up edges flat while the rips were curing. There's a hint.

Perhaps embedding a drywall mesh into the repair would help on this flat surface.

I have sent mine to a restorer who does this plastic repair, but the shipping in expensive and would not work for you considering the distance.

I think it was a design defect.

They crack in a number of places, depending on level of abuse.

I have a few where the center bottom is cracked. Fairly typical. The cause, I suspect, is that it's quite near where a back seat passenger would kick the area with their shoes on ingress/egress. It's really tight back there. Whether Ford could have foreseen this rough treatment, I don't know.

One other cause appears to be the old "Oh, you have a van?" joke. If you need anything in the back of your van, hit the brakes hard and any needed item will come forward. Any item in the fold down area of a fastback will surely find itself smashing into the seat back.

Another cause appears to be people who don't know how to remove these. The clips at the top are in a thin area and if you pull on the chrome straight back instead of lifting straight up the clips break and surrounding area cracks.

Defect or 50 years of abuse on a large plastic part?
The cost to restore these isn't that high but shipping these bulky things can hurt.
