Topic: Side stripe color for a 66 GT

I am on the final assembly phase for my 66 GT FB built in Oct 65 in San Jose.  The car is Signal Flare Red with black pony interior.  I see many pics of Signal Flare cars online that have black side stripes including what look to be high dollar restorations.  I have seen some publications posted online that state that Signal Flare cars were only offered with white stripes.  Can anyone offer some opinions or expertise on the proper color of stripe?

GT/accent stripes were typically color-coordinated with the interior.  For signal-flare, black would be the most common with a black interior.

It would make sense to me to match the stripe to the interior.  I am attaching the chart that i found online that says white should be the color.  This is what is confusing me.

That chart is from a book "How To Restore Your Mustang" by Larry Dobbs and Donald Farr published in 1989. It is one of the incorrect entries in that book that have been determined over the years. The while stripe entry may have been Ford's intent, but not what actually happened. The irony is the 66 GT Fastback Mustang on the cover appears to be Signalflare Red with a Black interior and it has black stripes.

Of course since a large percentage of these cars back in 66 were built to order you could get any of the regular colored stripes with any exterior or interior colors though the salesmen would try to guide you to the regularly chosen or suggested choices. In rare cases where the ordering original buyer deviated from the norm it created some odd combinations and rarely seen

After looking in the 1966 Model Introduction Training Book, the 1966 Sales Brochure, the 1966 Buyer's Digest, the 1966 Color and Upholstery Book, the 1966 Only Master Parts Catalog, the 1960-68 MPC and the 1966 Ford Color Chart, the only reference I have found that addresses the colors of the GT Stripes is in the 1966 Ford Car Facts Book,printed in August of 1965 (copy attached).

However, as Jeff noted, while these may have been suggested combinations, back then, it was basically a "Buyers' Market", and just about anything that was available could have been ordered.

Yes I did. Obviously must be a misprint. Possibly should have been Black ?
