Autolite spark plugs
« on: December 20, 2019, 09:59:01 AM »
Hello, I was out in the garage looking for something to get into and came across a box of Autolite  spark plugs. I can't remember the application and after calling the local Ford dealership and a few auto parts stores along with searching the internet I still don't know where these plugs were used. Maybe someone here has an idea. The spark plug box has is coded AT6 and below that number is another sequence of numbers..,000-12405-N. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Qman

I don't have an answer for this specifically, but can attest to the fact that Autolite made service parts for a bunch of different makes and models.  I had some Autolite points that were for a 426 Hemi and the part number did start out with some zeros.

You sure it's an Autolite plug? I don't find that number listed as an Autolite product. Maybe Motorcraft? If so it would be for many Generic Motors products. Not for any Mustang.

Yes these are Autolite sparkplugs.  The box of ten is labeled Autolite and has the Ford logo on the box. Each individual spark plug box is labeled Autolite and has the Ford logo and each plug is labeled Autolite.
I did some more checking also and I'm still at a loss as to the application....still a mystery. Qman

I did a search on duckduckgo.com using Autolite AT6, which crossed over to Motorcraft AT6 and several e-bay equivalents popped up, mostly for 327 Chevy engines. There were some ATV applications as well, so "searcher beware".

Back in the 80's, I was fortunate enough to pick up at a Swap Meet, a 1967 Autolite Registered Dealer's 3-Ring, indexed Binder which covered the majority of the Autolite products available at that time. So, I went there first to see if I could get an answer to the Applications of the AT6. In the Spark Plug Section, first there is a 4-page, light cardboard folder showing common applications. The first 2 pages cover American Passenger Cars, page 3 is Imported Passenger Cars, and the last page is Light Trucks. It was not until the last page that the AT6 appeared (copy attached). Following this 4 page folder, is a 56 page booklet covering more detailed Applications, Service, and Sales. In the detailed Applications section, there are many, many more. The additional include some trucks and busses, Tractors, Lawn Tractors, Generators, Contractors' equipment, etc., etc.
A real key here is that the "A" designates a 14mm Spark Plug, not an 18mm as most all Fords were. I have attached, for information, the last page of this booklet which is "Identifying Autolite Spark Plugs".

Hope this helps.

eBay lists a box of 10 new Autolite AT6 plugs; Item no. 222203268767

A good clue handwritten on the AT6 box in the eBay listing:  "J8C" which is the Champion plug number for a standard copper core pug.

Specs for J8C are 14mm thread dia., as opposed to 18mm for many Fords as mentioned above.  3/8" thread reach, 13/16" hex.

AT6, J8C, AC Delco C44 & C45, NGK B6S and other brand products with a similar heat range cross reference to many GM, Chrysler, I.H., Studebaker and Willys vehicles from the late 1930s to 1960s.  The plug is also used in many small engine applications; e.g., snow blowers, mowers.

For example, here's a thread which references AT6 application for a 1937 Dodge flathead six:  https://forums.aaca.org/topic/309345-spark-plugs-for-1937-dodge-d5/

Another eBay listing for AT6 plugs, Item number:  391602829679

In quick research, didn't see any applications for Ford use.

Or perhaps when viewing it another way:  buy an old car that can use the plugs!
