tail light difference
« on: January 05, 2020, 03:15:15 PM »
In looking at my tail lights I see that there are different bulb fixtures. One has a push on wire connection and the other has 2 wires as part of the bulb fixture. In all the pictures in picture section of the forum show the push on type connector except the last vehicle. Is the 2 wire one not correct for factory made? Are the push on type connector available today?

Doing some research today, looking at parts catalogs I see that they sell both  types (plug and pig tail). Are both considered correct for a 65?

2 wire version is incorrect for 64.5 65-66.  The difference between plug and pigtail reproductions is to mate with reproduction tails: one set has integrated plugs, the other tail does not and requires the pigtail to mate to the tail buckets.

I stand corrected by Mr. Turner.

The 2 wire is a 64.5 part.  I don't recall ever seeing a push-on style pigtail with 2 wires.  Seen plenty of service replacements, possibly so either tail light bucket could be used on an early car.

So factory correct would be the plug in type (the one on the left in my pic). Yes? The other must be a replacement from some earlier owner.

Assuming your car was scheduled to be built Feb 10, 1965, then yes, should be push-on style.
