1966 mustang While cleaning my car I notice a redish primer under the paint ??

Considering the mounting hardware in the picture appears to be painted that might not be (very likely isn't)  original paint nor primer  ::)

None of those parts were mounted on the car when painted so none of the hardware would be painted either.

Red oxide colored primer was used on the exterior body panels with a light gray filler primer typically before the exterior color was applied though.

Typical for the underside to have red oxide visible as thats all it was typically sprayed with. I was able to clean the underside of my 66 up and looks brand new.  But as Jeff said your headlight bucket hardware is painted so its obviously had some work done in that area

The last picture, the shot behind the grill, is most likely not factory. Those pieces were painted off the car in another area.
How about listing the plant and scheduled build date.
A couple of shots of my (sold down under) 66 GT Fastback, San Jose, 28 March scheduled.
