Shaded area on SUN-X Windshield
« on: October 01, 2019, 07:34:01 PM »
Is it abnormal to have an area at the top of the glass that doesn't go all the way up?

Nice windshield otherwise...

I am asking this question to decide whether or not to buy this original windshield or to just have one made date correct.

I really could use some opinions of those who may have seen more original windshields than I have.

IMHO it is one of two things.
1 a factory defect, unlikely.
2 there is a bit of delamination causing the loss of tint. likely.
I would not use it on a concours car.

Have seen this before on older original windows. Agree (given the location) it may have to do with delamination along that upper edge. Believe that is part of a film placed (part of the bonding layer) between the two layers of glass. Recall watching these being made it LOF during a fire inspection of one of the plants in the late 70's

The likelihood of a concours judge giving a deduction for the shaded top portion on that windshield is likely IMO. I would for instance in a judged setting.
