Metal Floor Plugs/Plates

This is a question regarding the large oval floor plates. Were these painted with the car or added after the car was sprayed? Photos I have indicate that they were sprayed on the car but the seam sealer doesn't have any overspray. Was it added after painting. If so it was a surface application and not placed on the plug and then bedded in the opening.

The plates were not painted, they were made of galvanized steel, installed after the undercarriage was primed and the black sealer was placed around them as seen in photo.

Thanks for confirming that. When I looked at the pic blown up it looked as if it had never been painted.

I think you'll find they were installed after paint. Sometimes we see seam sealer brushed over the interior side of them.

So they would not have been installed prior to painting the interior compartment? They would then be unpainted both sides, interior and exterior?

What is the correct orientation of the the drain plates. The assembly manuals show dome up. Most restored cars are dome down. What is factory correct?  also what is the cutoff date from large bore screws to small bore screws ? Lu

The dome is to the top.  They fit the opposite of what you think they would.
