How do I repair my water pump?
« on: August 02, 2019, 08:27:51 PM »
Hi Guys,
I have an original aluminium pump on my Oct 64 built SJ 289 that needs the seal replaced. I will also replace the bearing while I'm at it even though it has no "play". I like to research this kind of thing before I start pulling things apart to see if I can tackle it myself. I have never done one before and don't think that there is much to it but would like to see a video or pictures of whats required but can't seem to find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I’m sure it can be done but you will need a press to remove the impeller and the shaft. Most people send them to a respectable water pump rebuilder. Several have been mentioned here.

Hey Phil,
Joe Borg is doing it for me and has done plenty of them in the past. Just trying to get the seal. Do you know where I may be able to get one? (I'm in Australia guys)

I think NPD or dead nuts on sells the bearing and seal kits for DIY.

Thanks Bob,
I managed to find a bearing and seal 15 minutes away from where I work in the end.
