65 rear bumper
« on: August 27, 2019, 06:06:03 PM »
Is the rear bumper on a 65 straight or does it have a bow in it toward the trunk? The one I have has a bow but I cant tell if it was ever damaged or hit from behind. There is no damage to the rear panel to indicate any collision in the past.

They do typically have a bow. It is one of the most common misconceptions about the rear bumpers.

"Do the reproduction bumpers come with a bow?"

I would say no.

With that all being said, The "Golden Legion" / (Yao-Wea?) Brand are the Best Repro Rear Bumpers out there Bar-None that I have ever seen and sold by NPD.  I have one on my '65 Driver 'vert and was literally staggered by the quality...for the price.  That's saying a lot with it being 2019 and having to deal with years of crappy Repro Bumpers... "Nordan" Brand Repro Bumpers were the best at one time 2 decades ago and then their quality literally "fell off a cliff"....and their bumpers went from being great to the "Suck Zone"....lol...

The rear bumper, 3 31 5, on my 65 is straight.  Has been re-chromed, in the past, so may have been straightened ?  FWIW; I prefer it straight the curved bumper just doesn't look right.  Is this a points thing ?  Brian

Just for discussion need to put a long straight edge on some 65-66 rears I have out side just for comparison.

In over 35 years of judging don't ever recall ever discussing even the possibility of taking off for a straight rear bumper in a concours class - guess that is what your asking about.
