Neutral Safety Switch - Remove
« on: August 03, 2019, 05:26:25 PM »
Question on wiring which Midlife and others will be able to answer.  The car was originally a 4 speed, then a C4 was installed, and now an AOD. I am putting a 4 speed back in.  I assume I remove the neutral safety switch harness but what goes in its place or what is hooked up so the car will start?

A jumper harness/connector that usually includes wiring to go down for the reverse lights (when applicable).

The 65 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual has wiring diagrams.

Looking at that now Jim. Can it be that simple though?

Simple - yes. It's how you do it that complicates things. I won't get into details, but the first place I would look is a schematic.

Inside the passenger compartment just before the engine gauge feed plug goes through the firewall, there will be a male and female bullet plugs with red/blue wires on the underdash harness.  These connect to the NSS/BU harness if automatic and backup lights.  For a manual car, simply mate the male and female bullet plugs together on the underdash harness.  For manual cars with backup lights, a separate backup light harness without NSS was used, but stayed in the passenger compartment until exiting near the shifter hole in the tranny tunnel.
