Hey guys, I am new on here and am in need of some help. I have a 1965 mustang 2+2 fastback 289 that I just recently finished restoring. All original and looks beautiful. well I did most of the work myself then sent it to a place in Denver NC that specializes in classic car restorations. I did this to get a good original paint job on the car. All they did was prime, blocks sand, and paint the car. when I got the car back, I reassembled it. IE…trim, headlights, bumpers, and interior. I was finishing up the interior and went to install the trap door and noticed that the shop robbed me of theses rare metal threaded blocks that mount in the trunk inner frame and the trap door hinges attach to theses blocks. I cannot find theses blocks anywhere in any parts catalog. I have been searching the web and can’t find much information. I confronted the shop owner and told him what was taken from my car and he reassured me he would locate some. Well he still has not found me the blocks. does anyone know how and where to find theses 2 blocks? I really would like to put the original blocks back in there and not a clip of some sort. This is all I could find on the nut plates below

“The Ford Car Parts book (Body Illus Sect 610 pg 6) shows both the screws to the door and frame as 8-32 thread (40904-S), with a 8-32 nut clip (45129-S) used at the frame. This would indicate that the door was also tapped for a 8-32 thread. Both the 65 and 66 Body Assembly manuals "imply" a built in retaining device at the frame for a 10-24 thread. I found this to be a small tapped plate (bar?) about 1/4 X 5/8, retained in the frame by a bent tab. The door is also tapped for a 10-24 thread. Those would be deciding factors. Check the tapped hinge holes in the door.”

First: welcome.
Second: get a set of Osborn Production "Mustang Assembly Manuals" for your year Mustang.
Third: put your copy of "Ford Car Parts" (aka MPC - Master Parts Catalog to some) on a shelf and use it only to find items not in the Assembly Manuals.
Fourth: the Osborn Body Assembly Manual (AM0006 page 47) specifies 55590-S2 which is a 10-24X1/2 hex head screw (with: flange, external lock washer, 5/16 hex drive).
That's the answer. The MPC is a Ford Service document for customer repairs at a dealership, not what was originally installed at the factory. I had the same "misfit" with my 65 GT Fastback. It's aggravating. I'm not saying the MPC is loaded with errors, but they exist. The same types of "errors" exist with the Assembly Manuals, and you will find differences between plants. Most of those "errors" are addressed here.
Don't hesitate to ask.
Jim

I promise to be politically correct in all my posts to keep the BBBB from vociferating.

I have mine somewhere, but I need them. I’m not sure I’m following your question? Are you just looking for a source for them?
