I use a zinc anode from a marine supplier for my anode.

Does anyone know what the brightener is?

I have one of those boat anodes, but the zinc flows from anode to part and I was worried I would get shading unless I sat there turning the part.

With multiple zinc strips (3?) do you get a better zinc coat?

If you want the plating to be shiny plan on adding brightener every so often. If you don't mind it being dull don't add any.

I get the brightener from Caswell, but don't know what the chemical actually is.  I think they keep it a secret so they can charge you $15 for the little bottle.

So it's some sort of saccharide, interesting.  I guess one could do hours of experimenting and get the formula that works...or just spend the 15 bucks with Caswell every few years.

I'm ok with spending the money for the Cadwell CopyCad solution, their brightener and the dichromates.
But $24 for that small plate of zinc -- uh, no.
